Dake Cemetery

Moral Twp., Shelby County, Indiana

Dake Cemetery is located in the middle of a field amongst the corn and soybean's. Access is only available through the field and it is on private property. The property owner is aware of the condition of the cemetery and is glad someone wants to give it some attention.

The cemetery is surrounded by a fence and is full of trees and overgrowth. There has been some vandalism in the past but most of the stones appear to just need to be reset. All of the  graves except three are at one end of the cemetery. Those three are at the opposite end in the corner. The middle is unused.

A restoration is currently underway by descendants of the people buried here. A schedule of work days is below.

There is at least one Civil War veteran, Henry Dake, buried here.

Dake Cemetery is located in Section 25 approximately 1/2 mile northwest of the village of London, IN in the field on the Jim Tolen farm in the 7600 block of CR 800W in Moral Twp, Shelby Co., IN. It can be reached by a former county road which dead ends into the field.

THE DAKE CEMETERY
Moral Township, Shelby County

Excerpted from: History of Shelby Co. Ind.
By: Edward H. Chadwick, B.A

This is not a complete list. Many of the stones have been vandalized and/or have become worn and illegible. Chadwick’s dates don’t always agree with the dates reported to be on the tombstones.  And the age at death when indicated doesn’t always tally with the birth and death years as inscribed on the tombstones.  Math errors or a different way of counting the years in the past?
